UNI Kicks Off $150 Million Fundraising Drive

By KCRG Intern

CEDAR FALLS (AP) - The University of Northern Iowa is kicking off a $150 million fundraising drive with a pledge of $300,000 - from the school's president.

UNI President Benjamin Allen says he and his wife, Pat, have made the pledge to help kick start the school's Imagine the Impact campaign.

The first phase of the campaign, which has a goal of $150 million, kicks off this year.

The Allens' gift will be divided among several UNI programs, including an endowed scholarship in honor of their daughter, Jessica Allen Terri.

The focus of the Imagine the Impact campaign is scholarships, professorships and program support. The on-campus drive for $150 million began this fall. School officials say it will move to the Cedar Valley in 2009 and kick off nationally in 2010.

Finally! It is about time that a state university establishes a large fundraising drive to improve the educational element of the university! It is quite a bit more honorable than the $77M fundraising drive ISU is having to put towards athletics! Way to get back to the basics UNI...Continue to strive for a solid and strong education over athletics!
