Two Sisters Hit by Pickup in Sioux Center

By Becky Ogann

SIOUX CENTER (AP) - Two sisters were hit by a pickup truck as they crossed a highway in Sioux Center.

Police say Itzel Gomez, 12, and Lizbeth Gomez, 9, were hit early Wednesday evening as they crossed in a crosswalk on U.S. Highway 75.

The girls were taken to a local hospital. The younger sister was later transferred to a hospital in Sioux City.

Police did not release details of the girls' injuries but said both were conscious at the scene. Hospital officials did not release condition reports on the girls.

Police say the driver of the truck, Randy Klein, 50, of Alton, was not speeding. He also wasn't injured.

The investigation is continuing.

I know the driver of this truck & he has 2 daughters of his own. He is very distraught and torn up over this. I am praying for those little girls!

This is unfortunate, I hope the girls recover completely. I just hope this is a lesson for a lot of people. I live in a small town and kids run out into the road all the time. I came close to hitting a girl last winter. I was only going about 15 mph, I thought she was going to the sidewalk and last minute she darted infront of me. Thank goodness I wasn't going any faster as I slid to avoid her as it was. I am not saying this was the girls fault, just kids watch better and cars slow down.

Sounds like this family will be able to cash-in nicely with the assistance of an ACLU-provided lawyer team. Welcome to Amerika!

Both kids were young, looks to me as if they ran out in the road, and did not look for cars. Kids don't pay attention, hell, adults don't always pay attention. Was a simple accident.

What about that story says hate crime. Because all I see is a story about two girls who were in an accident.
