Iowa Woman Claims she was Wrongfully Jailed

By Becky Ogann

CHARLES CITY (AP) - A Rudd woman has filed a federal lawsuit claiming she was wrongfully arrested and then jailed for four days after her name was mistakenly typed on a warrant.

Billie Struckman filed the lawsuit earlier this week against Floyd County, court officials and officials with the sheriff's office.

According to the lawsuit, Struckman's name was listed on an arrest warrant intended for her son's father, who failed to appear for a contempt hearing on a failure to pay child support charge.

Struckman was arrested by the deputy in September 2007 and held for four days until the error was discovered and a judge ordered her release.

Good for her. I'm glad someone will stand up to the local authorities on this. If you want to be in power, you'd better use it well, or (hopefully) the people will put you in your place. Judgment for the plaintiff. Big.

It might have been a doughnut smudge on the name.

Her son's father wouldn't pay child support, and SHE was imprisoned for it? Yeah, those government screwups should pay her out of their own pockets a grand an hour for as long as they held her in custody. Sounds like she was the victim of the crime, not the perpetrator. Villages needing an idiot may find an abundance of them working in Floyd County government.
