Palo Power Plant Employee Hospitalized

By Becky Ogann

PALO - An accident at the nuclear power plant near Palo sent one person to the hospital.

A spokeswoman for FPL energy tells TV9 a contract employee was working on the non-nuclear portion of the station when he was shocked.

Trained personnel at the facility started first aid immediately.

The employee was taken to an area hospital.

Hey old guy! There is no secondary plant, if there was that would be called Unit 2. Non-nuclear part of station means just that. Looked outside your tiny little window....see the electrical lines, see the transformers, see the substations, they are all non nuclear sides of power stations. And heres the rest of the story....people are human and they make mistakes, luckily this man lived to tell about his.

I'm more outraged by the fact that the Cedar Rapids Fire Department does not have the chemical foam to fight an fire like the train derailment in Dyersville yesterday. We have hundreds of rail cars and tractor trailers coming and going each week in Cedar Rapids hauling hazardous chemicals to Penford and ADM to breakdown the corn to turn it into other products. We soon will have one of the largest alchol plants in the world at ADM, yet no chemical foam to fight the fires

I am confident that in this NUCLEAR plant, there are numerous guidelines that are ADHERED to, but accidents happen. This is the first accident at DAEC that I've heard about. It sounds like an isolated incident to me.

The photo of the plant is extremely outdated. The management of the facility is working hard to determine the cause and to prevent similar future events. Personnel safety and nuclear safety are paramount in nuclear power facilities. There are many process controls in nuclear power facilities and as stated nothing is routine. There is nothing more to the story other than the worker is back at the facility today and a team of people are working on determining the cause

So it was in the secondary plant? Still a problem. How can this be with all the safety precautions that are to be in place? The nucular Regulatory commision has very strict guidlines that have to be adheard too. So that said where were the Saftey personal from the plant? Theses are all controled jobs that have specific steps that have to be adheard to right? Or are we just winging it in the secondary plant???? Their is nothing routine in Nucular plants. Someone is not telling you everything KCRG
