PARKERSBURG - The Aplington-Parkersburg high school is a finalist for a 25-thousand dollar grand prize. Last May, a tornado destroyed the school and now the it must be rebuilt from scratch.

That tornado also killed Richard and Ethel Mulder. Their daughter, Lynne, entered Aplington Parkersburg in the contest for the most deserving school. The contest is sponsored by Henkel, which makes products like Dial, Soft Scrub and Right Guard. A-P is the only Iowa school on the list.

People can vote for A-P online through October 19th. So far, Aplington-Parkersburg High School has 81% of the vote, putting it in the lead. The winner will be announced on October 27th.
