Wilton Man to Rely on Intoxication Defense

By KCRG Intern

IOWA CITY (AP) - Court records show that a Wilton man charged with second-degree murder will rely on an intoxication defense.

An attorney for Curtis Fry filed a notice on the issue this week.

Fry is accused of beating to death 75-year-old Jerome McEwen on Feb. 7, which was Fry's 21st birthday. Police say Fry got drunk and broke into McEwen's apartment in Iowa City.

Fry's attorney requested a hearing so that he can waive his right to a jury trial. That hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23.

His trial is scheduled for Nov. 17.
