Van Flipped in Cedar Rapids Accident

By Becky Ogann

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Friday morning accident in Cedar Rapids sent a van spinning through an intersection and flipped on its side.

It happened Friday morning around 8:30 a.m. A car was going south on Wiley when--police say it ran a red light and hit this van going East on 16th Avenue.

The van spun several times, crossed the median, and landed on it's side. There were no injuries. The driver of the van says he didn't see it coming.

This is why the cameras at intersections are a good idea. Maybe next time someone running a red light can get caught BEFORE they cause an accident.

Ten'll get you twenty, that the red light runner was yakking on his cell phone.

The cops can't be everywhere every second of the day. This city needs red light camera's. Then I'd like see how many morons continue running them. Put up the cams and jack the fine up to $500. You'll either stop or go broke. Take your pick.

Sp1ke is right on the money. If anything people drive too slow around here. You just gotta be paying attention, sounds like this guy could have been going 10 mph and still run the light. If you don't pay attention then you should NOT drive.

well if the police were more present and veiwable on the streets, and stop some of the idiots, people might start getting the hint, and pay attention to what they are doing. Couple of tickets, seeing police in traffice...might do a little to change driving habits. But then again...everyone is in a hurry..life is so fast paced, that people take it to the streets as well. People..yes you reading this..think about it, how many times have to driven like this..be honest.. we can all slow down a bit!

The other car ran a red because they were in a big fat hurry... Bet getting into an accident over it wasn't really worth that minute they thought they'd save by blowing thru the light. Some people have no respect for others on the roads. If you're in that big of a hurry, and endanger others by your careless driving, leave 5 minutes earlier so you can STOP at red lights!

Ever drive in a large city? Larger than CR? I think you would take CR for granted if you did. Go out and see the real world, then talk about Iowans and tell me who can drive. Ignorant.

People drive so reckless in this city. They change lanes to avoid 5 second delay while the car in front turns. They weave in and out , speeding..just to reach a stoplight. They go 50 mph in 35 mph zones. They pass on the left- on narrow shoulders. They pay no attention to what they are doing! I am not sure what is behind this aggressive, immature, irresponsible attitude behind the wheel. Most accidents I feel sad for the innocent victim, but the driver of the other vehicle? Zero sympathy .
