Millions in Federal Aid to Help Repair UI Buildings

IOWA CITY - More federal money will go to help flood damaged communities in eastern Iowa. The latest grants will primarily help the University of Iowa repair several buildings. Money will also go to repairs in Cedar Rapids, Palo and Keokuk.

Here is a list of where the $81.3 million will go according to Senator Tom Harkin's office:

$1,921,050.00 – City of Cedar Rapids – Water Pollution Control Facility: Intermediate Lift Station. Funding will be used for estimated repair costs to the Station’s ventilation, seal water, air supply and lighting systems, submersible pumps, sump pumps, bridge crane/monorail, valving, instrumentation controls and wiring, and electrical controls and wiring were submerged and rendered inoperable.

$22,526,207.10 – University of Iowa – Iowa Advanced Technology Laboratories Building Contents. Funding will be used to repair the Optical Research and Development Laboratory instrumentation, Laser Research and Development instrumentation, Microbeam Epitaxy instrumentation, Micro Fabrication instrumentation, and standard laboratory countertop equipment.

$4,842,854.10 – University of Iowa – Mayflower Residence Hall. Funding will be used to reimbursement for repairs or replacement to restore the Mayflower Residence Hall to pre-disaster conditions as well as muck-out and remediation activities for floor, wall, and ceiling areas of the basement, sub-basement, and first floor.

$2,003,070.60 – University of Iowa – Museum of Art Building. Funding will be used for estimated repairs to damages in the first floor and basement walls, ceilings, doors, electrical system and mechanical elevator system.

$2,388,900.60 – University of Iowa – Theater Building. Funding will be used for estimated repairs to damages in the first floor and basement walls, ceilings, doors, electrical system and mechanical elevator system.

$6,002,279.10 – University of Iowa – Hancher Auditorium. Funding will be used for estimated repairs to the floor finishes, walls, wall finishes, ceilings, other finishes, doors, electrical systems and mechanical systems.

$6,375,430.80 – University of Iowa – Voxman/Clapp Music Building. Funding will be used for estimated repairs to the floor finishes, walls, wall finishes, ceilings, other finishes, doors, electrical systems and mechanical systems.

$9,686,561.40 – University of Iowa – Iowa Memorial Union Building. Funding will be use for estimated repairs to damages in the basement and first floor walls, ceilings, doors, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.

$2,816,739.00 – University of Iowa – English – Philosophy Building. Funding will be use for estimated repairs to damages in the basement and first floor walls, ceilings, doors, electrical systems, and mechanical systems.

$1,351,541.70 – University of Iowa – Art Building West Contents. Funding will be use for estimated repairs to damages throughout the building.

$13,622,454.90 – University of Iowa – Power Plant. Funding will be used for reimbursement for repairs or replacement to restore the Power Plant to pre-disaster conditions. Several steam generation process systems housed in the basement were adversely impacted by the floodwaters, including pumps, motors, fans, chemical feed systems, air compressors, water processing systems, and control panels.

$1,462,535.42 – City of Keokuk – Storm Water Pumps. Funding will be used for estimated damages to three storm water pumps and their associated electrical controls and motors, which were inundated by floodwaters causing the pumps to overheat and burn up.

$3,392,251.20 – City of Palo – Multi Purpose City Hall with Community Center. Funding will be used for estimated repairs to the floors, floor coverings, HVAC systems, electrical systems and equipment, data communication alarms, and multiple building components were destroyed.
