MASON CITY (AP) - The Mason City Police Department says it's getting numerous reports of a credit-card scam by phone that seems to be targeting customers of a northern Iowa credit union.

A Mason City police spokesman says an automated message reads out a person's name and tells them their credit card has been deactivated. It then asks the receipient of the call to enter his or her credit card number.

The police spokesman says most of the calls have been targeting North Iowa Community Credit Union customers.

He said the calls are coming from out of state and police are attempting to trace the number, although one man who dialed in his information on Tuesday already has charges on his card.
