DUBUQUE - Despite rumors of closing its doors for good this weekend, a Dubuque senior community center will open up again Monday morning. Just under new management.

Imy Sherman can exercise and then breathe easy knowing the Dubuque Area Lifetime Center is staying open.

Sherman said, "I would be lost without it because you know if you don't have something scheduled to do you have a tendency to just sit."

Most of the center's funding comes from donations. Directors say that money is being stretched too thin, making it almost impossible to stay a float.

Director Gary Carstens said, "Because of our location on the west end and because it's a very large building, trying to maintain that has been very expensive for us and we're doing it on fewer dollars."

Management of the center will change hands over the weekend. Dubuque’s Hills and Dales Development Center will take over.

Directors say seniors can expect the same service, staff and possibly additional programs. Donna Bradley said, "I like it here, it's a nice location and easy to get parking."

And it's consistency that these seniors are hoping for.

No word yet on whether the Lifetime Center will keep its name.
