Palin Factor Brings in Good and Bad Moments

CEDAR RAPIDS - Sarah Palin's introduction to Iowa was hearty, with chants of "We want Sarah!" However, her welcome to the crowd featured a geographical error.

"Thank you so much Iowa, its so great to be here in Grand Rapids," said Palin.

She was supposed to say Cedar Rapids. Palin spoke the night before in Grand Rapids, MI. In the eyes of the audience, the minor flub didn't seem to matter.

"I haven't been this excited about a candidate for years," said one woman in the audience.

Palin touched on a wide variety of issues, from retaining jobs in America to providing more relief to Cedar Rapids. But she never gave specific details about how she would accomplish those goals.

"I like the fact that she's a strong woman, but she's still a woman," said another woman in the crowd.

Palin has some strong followers, and possible twins. We spotted Becky Dryden in the crowd.

"Oh great, my husband said I should have poofed up my hair in the back to look exactly like her," said Dryden.

For Dryden, the resemblance comes naturally. Other women have flooded eye doctors to buy the same glasses Palin wears.

Women at the rally said they like how she's comes off as being approachable and relatable. They said they don't mind her lack of experience in Washington politics.

"She's amazing, and I love all the credentials she has," said Dryden.

While Palin won over the crowd, it's a tougher task with fellow lawmakers.

Thursday, Nebraska Republican Senator Chuck Hagel attacked those credentials, saying it's a "stretch" to say his party's vice presidential nominee is qualified to be president. Hagel said he focused part of that on her lack of foreign policy credentials.

While Palin didn't address any specifics with her plans to address certain issues, she did attack her opponents. Palin dissed Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden for his remarks the day before on taxes and patriotism.

"Now, our opponents, they have some strange idea about raising taxes, to them, raising taxes, and Joe Biden said it again today, raising taxes is about patriotism," said Palin.

That's not exactly what Biden said.

"We want to take money and put it back in the pocket of middle class people. [Anybody making over 250,000 dollars] is going to pay more...It's time to be patriotic, time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut," said Biden.

Palin also congratulated the Cedar Rapids crowd for their new hockey team, the Iowa Chops, adding how exciting it must be for the games to start in a month.

The Chops are based in Des Moines. Cedar Rapids still has their team, the Rough Riders.
