SPRINGVILLE - A mysterious promotion about the town of Springville has caused residents to wonder if trouble is coming to their Linn County town. But what they're seeing is just the buildup to an anti-smoking campaign, according to the town's mayor.

People have noticed strange advertisements on a billboard and in Sunday's newspaper. They lead people to an online countdown clock and a YouTube video, hinting at a scenario where the entire town vanishes in one day.

The ads say they'll reveal more information on September 22nd.

Mayor William Cooper said an anti-tobacco group chose Springville because its population is about equal to the number of people who die every day from smoking.
