CEDAR RAPIDS -- Federal investigators are looking into a suspicious package at Cedar Rapids' main post office.

Police and fire department crews say they do not believe anyone was in any immediate danger.

A postal worker doing a routine inspection came across a small package he or she thought was suspicious around 2:30 this afternoon.

Newscopter 9 flew over the scene as HAZMAT crews removed the package from the post office.

Cedar Rapids police said the small package contained a model car and a bag of a green, leafy vegetable substance.

The package also included some sort of a white powder. Officials believe that substance is harmless talcum powder.

No one knows for certain what those materials are yet. Police say the post office handled the situation well.

"It was probably correct of the postal service to err on the side of caution and safety. They had something they didn't know what they were dealing with," Lt. Chuck Mincks said.

The postal inspector is now handling the investigation. He will analyze the package and its contents.
