IOWA CITY (AP) - A year after it banned an all-you-can-eat corn eating contest, the University of Iowa will again allow contestants to gobble up corn.
The university banned the contest last year, saying it promoted gluttony.
Vice President for Student Services Phillip Jones says many people asked what he had against corn after he canceled the contest. He says it's not the corn, it's the concept.
The contest, part of the Beat State Week celebration leading up the annual football game against Iowa State, will be allowed this year but with a twist - students will compete to see who can eat a single ear of corn the fastest.
Jones says the new contest is OK because it is a short, fun way to promote the state's hallmark crop.
