Former Hawkeye Charged with Armed Robbery

By Bree'Ann Hildreth

DES MOINES (AP) - A former Iowa football player, who was eight months into a two-year probation, will faces charges of armed robbery at a hearing in a Michigan court next week.

Police in Hamtramck, Mich., charged Dominique Douglas on Aug. 1, after a passenger in his car allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint.

Douglas was charged with armed robbery, motor vehicle fraud and carrying a concealed weapon.

Police said Douglas confessed to officers he witnessed his passenger, Trymal Phillips, rob a man at gunpoint.

Douglas was on probation after he pleaded guilty to credit-card fraud in Iowa in December.

According to a criminal complaint, Douglas is accused of violating his probation with the Michigan charges.

If found guilty, Douglas could serve up to two years in an Iowa prison and be fined up to $6,250.

Maybe the president, athletic director and coach will now want to recruit him back. He would fit in so well with the rest of the team. Replace Ferenz with OJ Simpson while your at it Iowa U.

Just because crime is high around Iowa City and especially the U campus, and young women are targeted for sexual assault on a regular basis, and the football players see more jail time then playing time, dont judge the U as unsafe.

Douglas played one year for the Hawkeyes then got booted off the team before the start of the 2007 season, so he hasn't played a down for Iowa since 2006 this is why he got kicked off the team atleast when Iowa players get into trouble they are done forever unlike other schools around the country who just suspend them for the first 2 games or on Penn State's situation suspend them for 4 and lift the suspention after 2 what about the former Hawkeyes who helped out after the flood and tornado

you are an idiot. so much for higher education? just because these ex-convict/football players dont know how to subtract doesnt mean other people that go to the U of I are ignorant. you must be from ames...which would make you ignorant, i suppose.

newsflash! He is not a hawkeye and hasn't been for sometime. What does his ignorance and stupidity have to do with an education from the U of I? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! Don't judge an entire university that has about 11 different colleges on the basis of one numb nut. As for "how do UI fans sleep at night knowing they bring all these lowlifes to the area"; yes you figured out how the hawkeyes recruit. The fans are the ones that recruit, you are a genuine genius...

I thing that if we actually created a winning program, that a little criminal activity would be fine. Just not murder. That should be the reward for being champions. You just have be the champions first, for awhile.

So this is the reason UNI and Iowa State doesn't get any publicity. We don't have high crime rates with our football players and students!

Not only has there been a lot of stories in the news about thugs, but thugs who aren't very good at BEING thugs! This just makes them look stupid and pathetic, and ultra un-cool. Listen to me, you thugs, you are not EVER going to get that new Escalade, if you keep screwing up, and getting caught. Well, I guess you could actually get a job, save up, and EARN it like the rest of us decent people. Wow... WORK for something. What a concept!

Newsflash..A Hawkeye athlete gets arrested. Seems like you can't go 2 or 3 weeks without reading that headline the past couple years. In their desperately feeble attempt to create winning programs for alumni, they have completely thrown out the window any part of the screening process that involves character, morals or criminal activity. U of I athletics is a disgrace to the state and schools everywhere as there seem to be no efforts to curtail the problems other than trying to cover them up.

A real shocker, a Hawkeye getting arrested. Ya gotta love all the high quality individuals that they bring in to play sports at U of I. Maybe they can set up a prisoners VS staff game like in The Longest Yard and use the proceeds to build for another big shiny building on campus to help inflate the school admins egos some more. How do UI fans sleep at night knowing they bring all these lowlifes to the area to rape, loot and piledge. As long as we win who cares. Ooops, they don't win. LOL!!

Who cares if he was an exhawkeye. Plus what does that have to do with anything. You don't say that about every criminal. What college or high school did they all attend? Now if they tought classes on stealing or robbing or any other crime, then you can something about it.
