CASSVILLE, WI - Wednesday's plane crash left two University of Dubuque students in the hospital with critical burns. But one friend says they were trained and ready for situations just like this one.

The fiery plane crash severely burned juniors Cory Alsip and Grant Vogt. The plane went down around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Eagles Roost Resort next to the Cassville, Wisconsin, airport.

One day after the crash that destroyed a plane beyond recognition and left two students in critical condition, there are more questions than answers.

"We don't know the details, we're getting conflicting reports I should say, so until we have a firm fix on what the details are, and that's verified through the FAA, it would be irresponsible for me to comment because I wasn't there and we don't know," said Dr. Jeffery Bullock, University of Dubuque President.

Fellow aviation student Kevin Bradford says both Alsip and Vogt are excellent student pilots. He says the pair was likely in route on a training flight at the time of the crash.

"From what I have heard they were doing the right thing. We've all been trained on how to deal with emergency situations. It's ingrained in your head, you memorize emergency procedures. So they knew what they were doing its just an unfortunate situation," said Kevin Bradford, UD aviation student.

"If they were up in the air, they've met all the requirements, I have no doubt about that," said Bullock.

Witnesses say the plane slid across a parking lot before crashing into two resort cabins. Both Alsip and Vogt were able to get themselves out of the plane. They're both in critical condition at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Now the biggest concern for the close-knit campus is the recovery of the two young students.
