CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - The federal fraud trial of a Cedar Rapids landlord has been delayed to Jan. 5 in Sioux City.

Robert Miell, faces 19 counts of mail fraud, two counts of filing false tax returns and one count of perjury.

His trial had been set for September. He ask for a continuance, citing the complexity of the case and a scheduling conflict for one of his attorneys.

His trial will be about a year after a jury awarded $1.9 million to American Family Mutual Insurance Co., which sued him for filing claims for roof repairs he never made after a 2001 hail storm.

Miell owns about 1,000 rental properties in Cedar Rapids worth up $80 million.
