Governor Vilsack said he personally appealed to President Bush Wednesday to quickly provide federal aid for tornado-damaged areas of Iowa.

It happened during a breakfast meeting Wednesday morning at the White House.

Vilsack said the President was very sensitive to the issue.

Vilsack said he is waiting for the final damage assessments before he sends a formal letter to the President requesting the aid.

The preliminary estimate in Iowa City alone puts the damage to just public and university property at more than $10 million.
