CEDAR RAPIDS - Volunteers are still busy collecting back to school supplies for students in flood-damaged areas.

A community-wide rally will take place Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Organizers hope to distribute 2,100 school backpacks full of items kids need for class.

As of Thursday, they've filled about 1,400 backpacks.

"We are still in need of three prong folders, markers that are thin line...maybe some glue sticks," said Doris Courtwright, Polk school volunteer.

Volunteers are collecting supplies and putting them into donated backpacks at Polk Elementary School.

Organizers say the collection effort was supposed to end Thursday night, but they will still accept donations right up till the Saturday distribution.
