Banana Truck Hits Buffalo in Buchanan County

By Cassie Huisman

BUCHANAN COUNTY - Traffic on Interstate 380 southbound in Buchanan County was backed up for miles Wednesday morning.

The Iowa State Patrol reports a crash between a semi and a buffalo blocked both southbound lanes of I-380 at Mile Marker 49, the Brandon exit. A semi carrying a load of bananas was heading from Mississippi to Fargo, North Dakota.

The driver said he saw the buffalo at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, while heading north. The driver hit the animal but ended up across the southbound lanes. A second buffalo is on the loose. Another vehicle hit the truck after the crash but no injuries have been reported.
