IOWA CITY - Due to the large amount of storm and tornado damage in the Iowa City area, classes have been canceled out of concern for student safety.

University of Iowa spokesman Steve Parrot received word from President David Skorton to cancel classes for Friday, April 14th.
Parrot cited the large amount of storm damage that hit Iowa City's downtown for the decision and said that, "President Skorton is concerned for the students' safety." Parrot could not confirm the last time classes had been canceled on the University of Iowa campus.
