Dubuque - Planned Parenthood says it will open a new clinic in Dubuque. And that's causing some controversy.
People for and against the facility are speaking out.
Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa has confirmed with TV-9 it does plan to open a new center here in Dubuque. But their spokesperson is not revealing where or when that clinic will open.
Dubuque County Right to Life directors say they do not want that to happen.

This Marquis says it all. Dubuque County Right to Life believes any form of contraceptive is ultimately killing an unborn baby. They say there is no need for Planned Parenthood in Dubuque.

Steve Brody, Dubuque County Right To Life Executive Director said, "If you check around in the community you've got plenty of place that already provide the same services that Planned Parenthood does, whether it's Hillcrest or the Crescent Community Clinic."

A Planned Parenthood spokesperson says research shows about 10-thousand women in Dubuque County are in need of family planning services.

The clinic in Dubuque would offer all forms of birth control.
But it will NOT perform abortions.
Still Liz Cushman worries this just might be the beginning.

Cushman said, "I think down the road they will say there is a need for us to open a clinic for abortions. I just feel this is an incremental type maneuver."

Lutheran Pastor Gwen Sayler welcomes Planned Parenthood. She believes every woman, no matter her income should be able to get health check-ups and contraception as provided by Planned Parenthood.

Sayler said, "By giving women access to contraception. By giving them safe education so they don't have teenagers thinking you can't get pregnant for the first time you have sex."

It's an age old controversy, this time with a new clinic at the center of the debate.
