IOWA CITY (AP) - The mother of an alleged sexual assault victim has released a letter she sent to University of Iowa officials, accusing them of ignoring the woman as she faced harassment after reporting the attack.
In a copyright story, the Iowa Press-Citizen reported Thursday that the mother provided the newspaper with a copy of the letter dated May 16. It's the second letter written by the mother and then sent to the newspaper.
The Iowa Board of Regents has ordered that an investigation into the university's response to the alleged attack be reopened because regents didn't know of the letters. Two former football players have been charged in the assault.
The alleged victim is an athlete, and the latest letter accuses officials of not helping her in the face of harassment from teammates and football players.

I love it when girls get drunk and make bad decisions. she's probably disappointed when she see's me laying next to her in the morning. But I have NEVER raped anyone....period.

1) Their have been no convictions, the players were merely indicted. 2) The players were kicked off the team and expelled from school. 3) How is the athletic department going to make sure that the alleged victim doesn't get any harassment from teammates of the accused? Her letter lacks substance and merely vents her frustration at the athletic department In the Duke lacrosse case, a coach lost his job and several players lost their reputations, and come to find out they were innocent

So if the girl didn't want to report it, then mommy made her was it really rape or a party gone wrong? Sorry, I think sometimes girls get drunk and make really bad decisions then later regret it. Doesn't make it rape though!

It is a shame to see something like this happen, but rather than jump to conclusions I am waiting to see what the courts say. There seems to be more to the story than the little tid bits in the paper and on television. If they are guilty I hope they serve a long time in prison. If there was a cover up than people should be fired. However, if we find out that it is not as it seems you won't hear another word about it. Not all athletes are trouble makers and lets remember that.

Yes! She is ashamed because she NOW sees what she did wrong and also what she SHOULD have done for this NOT to happen. Uh....life lesson? She is an adult (19) and time to learn from your mistakes.

First off, how insensitive can you be? That's classic behavior for someone who has been raped, do a little research before you open your mouth. Often times the victim feels like they in some way deserved it and feel very ashamed, whether it be a college girl, a child, whomever it may happen to. Instead of turning to the police, the poor girl probably didn't want to have the attention brought on her because she was so ashamed, another classic symptom, cutting themselves off from other people.

Which brings us back to... where is the leadership at this college that allows this behavior to go on? I'm tired of their "Holier than thou" attitudes.

I thought I read that guys were lined up outside the dorm room waiting for their turn. If this is correct then this was a consensual activity. And this could explain why she woke up with blood on her body. I work at a college and we find girls initiating this activity more often than we want to admit, we then break it up and send them all back to their dorms. Parents dont want to know what their children are really doing in these dorm rooms. They would be ashamed.

Consensual? One of the men had sex with her while she was unconscious. How exactly do you give consent when you are passed out? Oh, that's right. An unconscious person can't consent to sex.

The girl refused to go to the police after the UIHC suggested she go. She waited. Theres no excuse for that. The university is not to blame here, some lose chick that was at a football party who was DRUNK herself and then later regretted what happened is to blame here. I dislike the Hawkeyes as much as the next person and I love the stories of drunken hawks running naked through IC, but come on. The girl is as much to blame here as the guys are. She refused to report it to police...

Go ahead Mom and get an attorney to represent your daughter and nail them to the wall. They will not come clean until you do and punative damages might get there attention say in the neighborhood of 200 or so Million. It has to stop so go ahead and get their undevided attention in this matter. What was done to your daughter was and is unacceptable. Fire them all. I wonder where their maorals are. you have to be a leader to be able to lead. They are not. God bless you in your efforts.

I think all college atheletes on scholarships should have to pay back all money given to them if they loose the scholarship for illegal activities!! Maybe loosing money might set in to these peoples head!! Oh yeah, plus interest!!! 50% interest rate should do!!

Innocent until proven guilty. Maybe there was a reason the University didn't take action...... was this consensual? Maybe we shouldn't judge and think that ALL athletes believe that they are ALL above the law. Do you know these young men personally? I do like the idea of the loan for college and the U assuming the loan if they have earned it through appropriate behavior and grades......

i think the media should present more stories on University of Iowa athletes getting into legal trouble... On a serious note however, all universities have this same problem - however, their local news stations don't exhibit every single negative occurrence repetitively to the public - the media is painting a false picture on Iowa athletics and it's destroying what used to be a prestigious athletic program - Unfortunately most people are too naive to take note of this...

YOU CANT HAVE THE ATHLETES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA MOVE TO THE BACK OF THE BUS, NOT ALL ATHLETES ARE CRIMINALS AND THEY SHOULDNT BE TREATED THAT WAY, THE TWO BOYS WHO HAVE BEEN ACCUSED AND LETS REMEMBER, ACCUSED OF THIS CRIME PROBLY HAD NO SHOT AT THE NFL ANYWAY, SO I REMIND EVERYONE LETS NOT LOOK DOWN ON ALL THE ATHLETES JUST BECAUSE A FEW BAD APPLES GET INTO THE BARREL.

how about this instead of scholarships, all athletes take out loans. If at the end of the four years they have not gotten into ANY trouble and have maintained an excellent GPA then the university assumes the loan. If they get into any little trouble drinking and have not maintained a certain GPA they pay the loan. NOMORE free rides for those who disgrace the academic side of the university. Our new motto Drink and commit crimes for IOWA.

this reasoning about not releasing information to the regents in order to protect the identy of the victim doesnt hold true. The media has effectively released information to the public about this situation while protecting the victims identity. This is not a mistake as the university claims - its a coverup. Its a disgrace.

Everything I've heard and read about the alledged wrong doing of university adminstrators rings true since I've seen so much of it it past behavior. If there isn't any cosequence then the regents are biased too. I really dont think that its fair for university adminstrators to use public moneys to defend their jobs in such wrong-doing.

I have said right from the start last fall that this smelled of a cover up. Ferentz, Barta, and Mason need to fired immediately and forced to repay their last 12 months salary. I do hope there will be criminal charges brought against them for the withholding of evedence and failure to report the crime. It is time for athletes at Iowa to move to back of the bus and EARN their way through school while actually passing real classes.

Lets see, if I remember right many of said at the time of the ALLEGED attack that it was being covered up. EVERYONE that had anything to do with with withholding evidence should be held accountable and also charged. If one of us private citizen did that we would be hung out to dry. ALL athletes think they are above the law because they have a talent. What happened to the honor and privledge to play sports The system needs to go to the day when it was a honor to be a athlete and roll model.

How many tax payer dollars will the university have to spend to make this thing go away and save all their jobs?
