holy Lord. when you read these comments you begin to realize that some of you are very rude and to be blunt--stupid. the people who say this kid ruined something must be the same people who want to ban the jet ski. accidents happen. to think the kid got stuck because he might be fat is very ignorant and insulting. even if he was overweight, HE SLIPPED! slim people slip too ya know.

After being pinned for about 5 hours, he was rescued, taken by helicopter to a hospital and is doing okay. The wet and muddy conditions in the cave are what caused him to slip and get stuck. He wasn't doing anything wrong. It's best to get all the facts before you pass judgement.

I was with this camp. It is a church camp. We were in a side cave of dancer hall. It was super wet cuz it had recently rained a lot and he slipped and got stuck. They got him out around five that night and he went went to a Dubquue hopsital but went back to camp that night. They did use an air chisel to get his leg unstuck.

The 16-year-old boy's ordeal lasted about five hours on Friday. Rescue personnel had to use an air chisel to free the teen, who suffered minor injuries. The teen crawled in on the high side of the deep cavern, tried to turn a 90-degree corner and slipped and was wedged into a lower area. "The kid did nothing wrong," Moritz said. "Because of the wet, muddy conditions inside, he did just slip." The teen was flown to a hospital in Dubuque, but Moritz said he suffered only bumps and bruises.

A weak acid to melt away limestone? What is harder, your skin or rock? Guess which would be affected first by any acid. Dude..........I think there is a person waiting to order fries at the drive thru, go help them.

I wonder what cave it is... I remember going there as a boy scout waaay back in the day, and there was one little channel everyone else was going down but I, as a bigger boy, didn't want to go because I feared getting stuck and couldn't conceive of how they would un-stuck me. I'd be afraid of using chisels; I'd think they could use a weak acid that wouldn't hurt his skin to melt away the limestone, but maybe contamination of the water is an issue?

Why is a 16 yr old trying to fit into small places like that? He ought to have known better and be thankful hes not seriously hurt! Stupi things like this ruin it for others who wouldnt be so ignorant.
