Woman Hurt in Crash with Truck Hauling Insecticide

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Authorities say a Prairie City woman was seriously injured Friday morning in a fiery crash with a truck hauling 300 gallons of an insecticide near Des Moines.

The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Iowa Highway 163 and closed the highway for about four hours.

According to the Polk County sheriff's office, the woman's car apparently caught the edge of the road and slide sideways, colliding with the oncoming truck.

The car caught on fire, and a passing motorist pulled the woman to safety. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was taken to a Des Moines hospital.

Officials say the truck was hauling ammonia sulfate in containers. The chemical did not leak or catch on fire. The truck driver wasn't hurt.

Your all wrong. The isotopal ph of solit sulfid is predisporpotionally infidecimal to that of a desired ph level. Insecticidiusdumpoverus is only ignitable in half life stage.

Actually you are all wrong. The alcolinity of the sulfats is predispositionally balanced with a bi-nary infrectual infusion of ph molecules contritely contrary to the sulfider. Thus forming a half life of inert molecular troxides.

Regardless of what the truck was carrying I am glad to hear the driver wasn't hurt and that there wasn't a chemical spill. I am also sending my pryers to the woman in this accident in hopes that her injuries were not serious enough to cause her death or a life of suffering.

It is used largely as an artificial fertilizer for alkaline soils. In the soil the sulfate ion is released and forms sulfuric acid, lowering the pH balance of the soil (as do other sulfate compounds such as aluminium sulfate), while contributing essential nitrogen for plant growth.

Didn't catch fire... well, ammonium sulfate is pretty hard to catch on fire. The article says "300 gallons", indicating it was probably liquid instead of powder, and liquid means it was probably mixed with water (for spraying?). Despite being composed of flammable hydrogen and accelerator oxygen, water is hard to catch on fire, too.

1:07--By itself ammonium (not ammonia KCRG) sulfate is used to lower the pH of soil, but it is often used to aid insecticides and herbicides. For KCRG standards, it's close enough to an insecticide.

well, actually it is used with water to help the insectiside application...

It's not an insecticide in and of itself, but it is a chemical used in the production of insecticides as a binding agent. By itself, it's a fertilizer.

ammonium sulfate is not an insecticide
