CR Residents Move into FEMA Trailers

By Becky Ogann

CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) - Some Cedar Rapids residents who lost their homes in last month's record flooding have a new place to call home.

They've moved into 85 FEMA trailers set up in mobile home parks around the city. The number of temporary homes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to increase quickly. Another 257 trailers are being readied.

FEMA spokeswoman Sarah Magee says there's no shortage of people qualified to move into the trailers.

Cedar Rapids has requested between 500 and 700 units.

Magee says Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler, Louisa and Wapello counties also are eligible for temporary housing. FEMA will continue to take requests at least through Sept. 27., the deadline to apply to individual assistant.
