While I am sorry many lost their homes and everything they own, I am not going to be ashamed of what I have. I am proud to still have my home and everything in it. We all have a right to continue living our lives. Spreading the pain and misery is not going to help anyone. I am doing what I can to help those in need. That is all that can be asked of us all.

Furthermore, I just didn't think it was right you bragging about all you have when people have so little..My daughter is having to move into one of these fema homes. her house was completely under water. As far as my home goes.. I have a story and a half and pay $300. taxes and insurance included. To me, there is no need in bragging in a time like this. After every comment it was said, Does yours have this.. I praise fema for what they're doing. I just don't see any sense in the braggin.

What upset me was you seemed to be bragging about all you've when others have so little right now. I'm all for trailers. My first home was a trailer and I loved it! I just don't get people bragging when others have so little right now. I to have volunteered. In the wake of the flood, we moved my nephew and because of me my cousin moved into an apt with only clothes and I provided him with EVERYTHING he could dream of having. I live very conservatively and buy very little. my life goes to helping

Remember wishing bad on other makes you no different then the trash you talk about.....In defence of me..Trailers are nice. A good home for those not as fortunate as you. You may live in a nice home but I know for a fact that some of tyhe people alreadt in the fema homes are adopting well and like the community. We are not trash. just dont choose to have 30 years of 1500.00 house payments like most of you have. Now we can travel and see our grandkids when we want. Oh and I have no debt thank you

Yes a mobile home can be better then some of the stick homes. Why are you people so scared of mobile home people? Again I welcome my new FEMA neighbor. Come an visit sometime.

get your head out of your A@% and read what I said....I am refuring to the trash that think living in a mobile home is low life. I love my home and you cant comprehend what you read. Mobile homes are not trash and I have a fema trailer next to me and I WELCOME anyone that get to live there. Does your house have any of the things I mentioned. you get a life. I put in countless hours of volunteer time for people and to those who bad mouth mobile home life is what I was getting at. jerk

You are all high and mighty. You're drowing in debt on "YOUR TRASH". You buy your trailer, pay all your lot rent, and have your trailer depreciate the day you buy it.. Get off your high horse. You are no doubt the only trailer trash there. These homes these people lost were worth soo much more than your over priced peice of s---. Material is what you care about.. Does this actually make you happy.. No it don't we can tell just by your attitude. I hope a strong wind comes and blows you right down
Friday, Jul 18 at 7:19 PM Cathy wrote ...
The only "trailer trash" around is these jokes who call themselves human beings. I cannot beleive that Cedar Rapids actually have such heartless people! Who cares about a jacuzzi.. I have one in my house.. whats the big deal.. Its people like you who should have lost everything.. someday it will happen! "Never look down on anyone unless you're helping them up"... You "trash talkers" only do this to make yourselves feel better. Guess what.. Nothing will help you.. so stop already!

Who cares what your trailer has in it. The fact of the matter is that the poeple of Cedar Rapids get into these trailers and get the help they need. Come on people lighten up!

Do you have 2 living rooms? My mobile home does. Hummm I wonder who wants to call my 81,000 home trash. If you havent seen one go look. I bet I live in a better home then you.

I know these are the "good" trailers and all... without formaldehyde we're told. Has anybody actually tested them? The manufacturers knew of the formaldehyde in the katrina homes. The last thing any flood victim around here needs is additional health problems.
Friday, Jul 18 at 1:06 PM white/trailer trash debate wrote ...
Once, and for all, money has little to do with being "trash". I've know wealthy trashy people, and poor people who had class and decorum. One issue is priorities. Trash has trouble paying for things they cannot see, touch, taste, or drink. Such as rent, insurance, utility bills.. If a bill is due at a time when trash is out of beer and cigarettes, which gets paid for? Red tape over that broken tail light can mean there's a new painting of Elvis on black velvet hanging in the trailer!

Yes, a mobile home can cost as much as a house, there's some at Bill's Brothers on 16th ave. SW and those are anywhere from 40,000 to 120,000, take a look.

I agree with Lujack... Our city needs help! Who all has seen the pictures of our so called Mayor sleeping during the flood meetings? I was evacuated but not really flooded.. I sympathize with those who were. And to see our mayor would rather get a few zzz's during everyones tragedy is just sickening. To all who want to talk trash.. evidently you have some serious mental problems. If you were flooded and lost all, would you still be making the same remarks! What comes around goes around!

Who cares where people live as long as they're happy & safe? BE NICE PEOPLE! You know who you are!!! Why would you want to put people down? What does that do for you? I have friends/family who live in mobile homes and million dollar homes and they're all at the same level. because they're nice to others!!! Just shut up if you can't say anything nice. Take your energy and help the flood victims. By the way do you own a house? MOBILE HOMES ROCK! :-)

In the past I have considered KGAN a joke with its pro conservative BS...BUT since the flood I have noticed that KGAN is doing a MUCH better job of telling it like it is. CR government is an on going joke that it would seem that KGAN is only honest enough to report it. Could it be that the ties KCRG has to the Gazette is coloring their reporting?

To those idiots out there that have nothing better to do but refer to the FEMA housing as trailer trash, get a life. At least there is something being done to help all those who were forced from their homes and no where to live. If you have a problem with the housing the gov. is providing, then why don't you open your doors and allow the victims to live with you or better yet, buy or build them a house. Or do you just have to trash talk other to make yourself feel better.
Thursday, Jul 17 at 10:20 PM Lujack wrote ...
I would wonder why KCRG is not posing the hard questions that need to be answered to the city goverment, instead throwing softballs. KGAN is doing a reality check every Thursday night and I would encourage all to tune in. Not prepared, no mitigation, and no recovery plan. Cedar Falls/Waterloo did fine, did they think all that water was going to evaporate before it got here? Mercy 10 blocks away flooded, no infra-structure protection what-so-ever.Reactive not proactive......Get with it KCRG.......

so if low lifes that live in mobile homes are called trailer trash, then you low lifes that live in houses must be refered to as household garbage, is that the politically correct way to put it? i used to live in a mobile home, because i wanted to have my own place, and since i've bought my own house, let me tell you there are a whole lot more low life scumbags that live in houses than there are that live in mobile homes! so how does that set with you mouthy scumbags? lets see your comments now
Thursday, Jul 17 at 7:35 PM snickers wrote ...
Yes I live in a trailer. When we bought it I kept referring to it as a trailer and Troy Hames would correct me and say "it's a mobile home". Whatever. I have nice neighbors and I have trashy neighbors. I pay a trailer payment and lot rent and VERY CHEAP taxes...as in under 300 a year. I have a yard for my kids to play in. When I lived in a "nice" apartment in Coralville I paid more a year than I do now adding lot, trailer and taxes together. And my kids had to go to a park to play.

Well, actually I think anymore most mobile homes come in on a trailer, they don't really have wheels on them anymore...But these FEMA homes do have hitches sticking out the front...

Is HABITAT FOR HUMANITY going to be helping people build/rebuild their homes? I looked on their website and most of their work is done in other countries - I don't know why. I think they should be helping more here. CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME !!!

Trailers, I believe was the name for a living space 8 to 10 foot wide that could be pulled with car. Later as they got larger and people wanted to feel like their "trailer" was a home came to calling them mobile homes because they could be moved when needed.

A trailer is something you tow a boat on...a mobile home is a home that can be moved from one site to another and is constructed in a enclosed environment. I feel so sorry for the flood victims. FEMA is working hard to house people. Who cares wether it's called a trailer or a mobile home. Flood victims just need a place to rest their heads and have a sense of self worth at this point. May God bless them all and watch over them.

we have to remember in the time of such despair not to use hurtful word like trailer trash, this temp homes are there for the people that have no where to go, please try to be supportive, most of these families have lost everything, and if you call them names then you are no better than savages. maybe when you see families trying to start over and rebuild maybe ask what you can do to help.....
Thursday, Jul 17 at 3:43 PM Whisky_NW wrote ...
I was always under the impression that they were the same, "Mobile homes and Trailers". Mobile homes are most certainly towed behind a vehicle, prior to being put in place. If you dispute this, please let me know exactly what a "mobile home" is. Thanks
Thursday, Jul 17 at 3:37 PM lost_it_all wrote ...
as a flood victim, you people need to realize that a place to call your own, even if temporary, and even if its a mobile home, its something. as far as trailer trash, you know what, your home is what you make it whether its a house, an apt, or a mobile home. if its trashed then whatever thats on that person, not you, get over it
Thursday, Jul 17 at 3:22 PM grow up people wrote ...
ok, you guys seriously need to grow up, most trailers/mobile homes cost almost as much as a house now a days. There is no difference, except maybe one has skirting and the other doesn't, but does that really matter? And to answer a question, people are only supposed to be in the FEMA trailers for up to 18 months. But seriously people, we all know where the trailer trash live and where there are trailer/mobile home communities, who cares what they're called, to some they are simply a home for now
Thursday, Jul 17 at 3:09 PM AM wrote ...
My question is what does it matter!!! It may not be the Ritz but at least they are providing something clean and furnished to help people who have no where else to go. The comments you people make sometimes absolutley amaze me!!

Let's not forget the FEMA mobile homes in West Branch, Iowa. Oh yes, I live in a mobile home not a trailer which moves me out of being trail trash. The writer of this story needs to remember to get it right about mobile homes and trailers.
