Vilsack will Join Bill Clinton on Africa Trip

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack and wife, Christie, will accompany former President Clinton on a weeklong trip through Africa.

They will cap the trip with a stop in Mexico City for an international conference on AIDS.

In an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press, Vilsack says one goal of the trip will be to gather information to aid Iowa State University in its efforts to improve food production in Africa. The former governor advises the college on that effort.

Clinton and the Vilsacks will travel to Ethiopia, Rwanda, Senegal and Liberia on the trip beginning July 28.

The former president heads a foundation that does work in Africa, and Clinton makes annual trips there.

.......is that every idiot can vote, whether they know who the governor is or not. Sad to see this coming from Iowans though.....a once proud and educated state.

Does anyone even read the news story? Someone thinks it's Culver going and someone thinks Vilsack is still the governor. No wonder there was a gripe about Iowa leading off the primary season, we still have people who don't even know who's in charge of the state!

We have a 25 year history of throwing money at the AIDS problem in Africa. Look at the stats. AIDS cases have skyrocketed and continue to grow as does the population. It's about time we stop throwing money alone to suffice for our guilt on colonialism and begin to demand bahavior accountability. It seems we have held everyone, but Africans responsible for the AIDS epidemic there.

Um, Mr. Governor, what about taking care of the cities here in IOWA that are currently trying to overcome the devastation of June's flooding? Let's worry about Iowan's for once, and not the other countries. They can wait a while, Iowa can't. We need to rebuild.
