PALO (AP) - Palo has a new mayor to guide it through the post-flooding recovery.

The City Council appointed Mayor Pro Tempore Jeff Beauregard to the post on Monday.

He replaces former Mayor Terry Sanders. She was in Texas with family during the floods, which covered almost all of Palo. All but 10 of its 423 homes and businesses were flooded and all 950 residents were evacuated for four days.

Sanders, who started as mayor in November, resigned on June 30. She said she felt it would have taken too much time for other city leaders to catch her up.
