CHARLES CITY (AP) - Residents of Charles City are meeting over the holiday weekend to talk about the future of the town's historic suspsension bridge.

It collapsed last month during widespread flooding in Iowa.

Mayor Jim Erb scheduled the public meetings for Friday and Saturday.

He says the city still doesn't have an answer on how to rebuild the 102 year-old swinging pedestrian bridge.

Erb says an attempt will be made to pull the remains of the bridge out of the Cedar River next week. Experts will then be called in to evaluate what can be done to restore the structure.

The mayor says the city can apply for state and federal funding, but warns that it may be a long wait.

The bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places.
