DYERSVILLE - Hundreds of new homes are built in Our Town Dyersville each year, but the majority of those homes don't stay in town.
That's because they are built in a factory and delivered to families around the midwest. We got an inside look on how these homes are built. Let's visit the All American Homes factory.
These homes look the same as any other new home, but how there built is what makes them special.
Known by many as factory built, "modular" homes, All American refers to them as system-built. That's because each home is built off-site in stages; It's a process that depends on efficiency.
"Everyone knowing their job, we're inside and not affected by the elements and having material on hand at all times," said Mike Dingbaum, plant manager.
Mike Dingbaum has been working at All American Homes for 35-years.
He says from the time a home is ready to build, they can have it out of the factory in two weeks.
The process starts with building the floors, once finished they move down the line on giant rollers where exterior and interior walls are attached.
Like a symphony, these homes are built with precision and craftsmanship.
Nearly 250 employees work hand in hand to create custom tailored homes.
Everything at All American Homes is done in house.
From electrical, to drywall and finish work, homes are delivered on site nearly 85-percent complete.
"The final product is really quite spectacular. When you look at the start of the process and what we can actually deliver," said Mark Todd, All American Homes.
At its peak, All American constructed nearly 400-homes in one year, making it one of the largest system home builders in the Midwest.
"Anybody that's looking to build a home will be really pleased with what they see here. Not only with the time frame and quality they can get it built in, but then also the price they see, we're going to be very competitive," said Todd.
