By Becky Ogann

WEST DES MOINES (AP) - Mall officials say an 11-year-old girl who was critically injured after falling 25 feet from an escalator may have been riding on the handrail.

The accident happened Wednesday morning at Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines.

Mall spokesman Randy Tennison says the child may have been sitting on the railing. He says security cameras caught "some of the girl's activities."

Police identified the girl as Jasmin Spurlin, of Capser, Wyo.

A hospital spokeswoman said she remained in critical condition on Friday.

West Des Moines Police Lt. Jeff Miller says the investigation continues.
