Houby Days Takes Over Czech Village
By Heather Hubbs, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-- It's time once again for the annual Houby Days Celebration in Cedar Rapids' Czech Village. Houby is Czech for mushrooms, and while there will be plenty of them, the festival is really a celebration of Czech history and culture.
Houby Days kicks off Friday night at 5pm along 16th Ave SW in the heart of the village and continues through Sunday. The street will be filled with vendors, carnival rides, live music, and food. There will special events all weekend including a car show on Saturday, the Houby and Egg Breakfast at Smuggler's Wharf Saturday and Sunday mornings, and the annual Cabbage Roll on Sunday.
The event is free. Commemorative buttons are on sale now for $2 at Czech Village area businesses.
A complete event schedule can be found at www.czechvillagecedarrapids.com.
Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated events would be taking place on 16th Street SW. We apologize for the error.
