Two Injured in Explosion, Fire at Hog Confinement Building

KALONA, Iowa - Three Washington County fire departments responded to an explosion and fire at a hog confinement building that sent two workers to the hospital.

It happened at Brenneman Pork Farms southwest of Kalona just before 10:00 Wednesday morning.

The Kalona Fire Chief told the Washington Evening Journal a methane explosion likely caused the blaze.

Officials have not released the names or conditions of the injured workers. They also have not provided a damage estimate.
