CEDAR RAPIDS - In preparation for the immense recovery and rebuilding efforts our community will face, The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation today opened the Flood 2008 Fund for flood relief and recovery donation.
This fund will support nonprofit organizations in Linn County who are providing first-response efforts and ongoing recovery and rebuilding throughout Linn County.
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation encourages donors to support first-responders like the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the United Way of East Central Iowa. The Flood 2008 Fund will support these organizations immediately as well as funding recovery and rebuilding efforts in the day, weeks and months to come.
Donations may be sent to:
Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation
PO Box 9
Marion, Iowa 52302
Other donation methods are currently being explored and more information will be shared in the coming days. For more information on how you can help, go to
www.gcrcf.org or call Bud Synhorst, vice president of resource development at 319.550.4538 or 319.366.2862 or at bud.synhorst@gmail.com.
The Community Foundation does not grant directly to individuals or families, but to the nonprofit organizations that serve individuals and families in Linn County, Iowa.

Know, at least, that all of us who have friends and relatives in the State of Iowa are PRAYING for all of your safety as you deal with this. If I lived in anywhere else but in Indiana, it would definitely be Iowa !

I agree with Jack. Please, please, please set this up for online donations. I no longer live in Cedar Rapids and I know serveral of our neighbors, friends and co-workers (including ourselves)who have Iowa connections would like to help. An online option would make it so much simpler and therefore more people would respond. In the meantime, I'll mail my check.

People all over the country, and the world, have been following the events of this terrible flood. It would be advantagous for you to set up a recovery fund that can be donated to online.

And that's why we need late night bus service like Iowa City, I think there's a need here as well.

I am happy to hear about being able to help out these organizations, I know that HACAP has 2 headstart centers impacted by the flood waters. Headstart centers serve wroking families with free preschool services, many of those families living in the flood areas. With 2 centers down these families are going to have to go to others centers around cedar rapids, making it harder for them to get to work and try to get back to some bit of a normal life.
