LIFTING OF MANDATORY EVACUATION AREA, CANCELLATION OF CURFEW, AND OPENING OF ADDITIONAL BRIDGES

Waterloo, Iowa, (Friday, June 13, 2008)

Waterloo Mayor Tim Hurley has announced the lifting of the evacuation declaration issued on Wednesday, June 11th, for an area on the city’s near west side.

The entire area bounded by the following streets may now be re-occupied:
- W. 6th St. to W. 18th St.
- Cedar River to Jefferson St

City officials recommend following these criteria to determine if a home or building should be occupied:
 The structure is not surrounded by water
 There is no water in the basement
 Utilities are restored

The mandatory curfew that was implemented for the evacuation area mentioned above has been cancelled.

This morning, Friday, June 13, 2008, the Iowa Department of Transportation opened the Mullan Avenue and First Street bridges, which includes north and south bound Highway 63. Iowa DOT found no structural problems that would prevent the bridges from reopening.
