Current recommended routes for travel into the Iowa City/Coralville area:
From the West: For travel into the west UI campus or west Iowa City, use Highway 1 or Melrose Ave. For eastbound traffic on Iowa 6, use Camp Cardinal Boulevard to get to Melrose Avenue; avoid the Highway 6/ First ave area.
From the north: Use Interstate 380 or Highway 965 to travel to North Liberty. Use Highway 1 to travel to east Iowa City; Dubuque Street is closed south of Interstate 80. To get to the west campus and UI Hospitals from the north, it is recommended to use Highway 380/218 the Melrose Avenue exit off of Highway 218
From the east: Use Interstate 80 to Hwy 1 for travel to east Iowa City; Use interstate 80 to First Ave or Coral Ridge Avenue for travel to Coralville. Dubuque Street South of interstate 80 is closed. For travel to east iowa City neighborhoods, use Herbert Hoover Highway/Rochester Ave or Hwy 6
Froom the South: For travel to locations west of the Iowa River, use Hwy 218l For travel to locations east of the Iowa River, use Hwy 6. Gilbert is closed sough of Hwy 6
In general, avoid Hwy 6/ Riverside Drive on the UI Campus and downtown iowa City if possible. The Park Road bridge and Iowa Ave bridge are closed. Watch for electronic message board signs and detour signs for information. Travel on remaining streets and bridges is likely to be congested: plan for travel delays.
Traffic traveling through Iowa City should avoid downtown Iowa city if possible. Interstate 80 is remaining open for east-west travel through the metro area.
