CEDAR RAPIDS - A levee has suffered a small breach that is affecting in the Cedar Valley Neighborhood (Rompot) in SE Cedar Rapids.
There is a mandatory evacuation for that area.
The following is the release from the City of Cedar Rapids:
The safety of our citizens is our primary concern, for this reason City Officials are evacuating homeowners who live in the Cedar Valley neighborhood, also referred to as the Rompot area. This mandatory evacuation of these homes is being conducted under the City Municipal Code Chapter 58.02 and 58.06. Residents have been notified by Police and Fire personnel of the evacuation orders.
The City is also utilizing the Code Red reverse 911 system to notify residents in this area in addition to the door to door notifications that Police and Fire are conducting.
Residents are reminded to take pets with them as they leave their homes. All area animal shelters are full. Residents who are going to Red Cross shelters or will be staying in places where pets are not allowed, will need to find alternative places to house pets.
This mandatory evacuation DOES NOT affect any other parts of City of Cedar Rapids.

Watch out for the Kness family. They'll take everything you have even if it's covered in mud. They don't work to have the things they have - they steal it. Watch out Rompot people - I know of 10 people they've stolen from. Why doesn't the CRPD take the time to arrest those thieves? There are alot of great people in Rompot that didn't deserve this. The Kness's did!

My God the "9:46 PM Anonymous" person that wrote the febile words has the mentality of a rock! Get a backbone, if your so sure of yourself put your name where your words are,SISSY MAN! I think we need compassion for this person. I will gladly sandbag next to a "drug dealer" and I do stand in the grocery line with "drug dealers." God asks us not to judge others. That isn't my role in life. My role is to love others as my neighbor, that's the action He requires of me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion right, wrong or indifferent. Stand beside your neighbor, go and fill a sandbag together. Teach and learn from one another. Mentoring may be what is needed 4 both.

Tinman- were you asked to leave your home? Do you know what it's like to leave ALL your possessions behind and not know if you home will be there when you return? Don't talk about things you don't know about.

I am astonished and embarassed to read some of the comments on this site. I thought Iowan's were better than what some have been writing. I certainly hope those who are ranting on this site are from other areas of the country. This is a time when all people should be coming together- and asking what they can do to help...like Adam did at 1:33am. Not -itching about the Economy and Drugs. My grandparents LOST their house, I'm guessing he doesn't much care what kind of car anyone drives now.

Have we not learned anything from Katrina. We have had three days notice, many of our neighbors sit on the porch and will be the first to say "SAVE ME!"

Seriously, "Anonymous"? I hope when your Lexus SUV with built-in GPS, heated seats, and endangered Easter Island mahogany dashboard is dangling two 20-inch wheels over a cliff, you'll understand if a neighbor doesn't throw you a rope because of assumptions they make about you. Everyone deserves compassion in this flood, and no one, flooded or dry, deserves to be tarred with misinformed assumptions based on where they live.

Maybe instead of wondering around downtown or taking pictures; people should be volunteering and sandbagging to help neighbors!!!!!!

Most of the people down in Rompot are drug dealers anyway, good riddance!
