CEDAR RAPIDS - The mandatory evacuation area within Cedar Rapids has been expanded to an area matching the 500 year flood plain map. This is due to the revised crest level of 24.5 ft, up from the earlier estimate of 22.5. City of Cedar Rapids personnel will be alerting residents and businesses in the area using the Code Red reverse 911 system, media announcements and going door-to-door. The 500 year flood plain map is attached and included below.

As a precautionary procedure, Mid-American Gas personnel will continue to shut off gas to the evacuation areas.

Water on the west bridge approach has resulted in the closing the First Ave Bridge. The 3rd Ave Bridge was closed earlier. The bridges at 2nd Ave, 8th Ave, and the 5-in-1 remain open at this time. It is anticipated that these bridges will also be closed later today.
