Mandatory Evacuation for Entire City of Palo

PALO - The City of Palo has declared a mandatory evacuation to begin immediately for the entire city of Palo.
The Roosevelt Middle School shelter at 300 13th St NW in Cedar Rapids is now open to accommodate evacuees.
Please be sure to check with any of your neighbors who may be elderly or handicapped to be sure they have received and understands this message.
Evacuees should take the following actions:
1. Begin packing immediately. Pack all necessary clothing, blankets, medical supplies, any prescription drugs, and personal items you may need: soap and towels, personal grooming items, identification, credit cards, and if applicable baby food and disposable diapers. You may also have use for other supplies such as portable radio, flashlight, extra batteries for each and plastic or paper bags. Do not forget any food for specials diets.
2. If you have pets please take them to the Cedar Vally Humane Society, 7411 Mt Vernon Rd SE or a private kennel. Arrangements have been made with the Humane Society to care for pets. The Roosevelt Middle School shelter does not have places for pets except for service animals.
3. Before leaving your home, shut off all appliances, plug the floor drains and lock all doors and windows. Tie or attach a white cloth to or near your front door to indicate to emergency workers that you have left your home.
4. If you need transportation contact the Emergency Management Agency office at 363-2671.
5. Please drive safely.
