Red Cross Opens Cedar Falls Shelter, UNI Cancels Class Tuesday and Wednesday

CEDAR FALLS - Due to local flooding and the need to reduce utility use, University of Northern Iowa classes and normal work activities are cancelled starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 10. UNI classes, normal work activities and events also are cancelled for tomorrow, Wednesday, June 11; this includes transfer orientation. Essential personnel will still report for work.

The Red Cross will open an evacuation center in UNI's McLeod Center at 5 p.m. today, June 10. Information, water and snacks will be available. The evacuation center provides temporary refuge to those displaced or threatened by flooding.

The West Gym on the UNI campus is being used by the Red Cross to house evacuees and those needing overnight and/or long-term shelter.

The city of Cedar Falls and UNI will set up a joint media-briefing center at UNI's Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center starting at 5 a.m. tomorrow, June 11.
