DES MOINES - Governor Chet Culver added Van Buren county to the list of declared disaster areas Monday night. That raises the number of emergency disaster declarations to 44.

Below is the entire list of counties on that list:
Mitchell, Clayton, Kossuth, Allamakee, Wright, Hamilton, Bremer, Linn, Iowa, Fremont, Page, Montgomery, Adams, Union, Clarke, Marion, Johnson, Jasper, Polk, Dallas, Crawford, Boone, Story, Fayette, Harrison, Marshall, Tama, Benton, Dubuque, Delaware, Buchanan, Black Hawk, Hardin, Webster, Humboldt, Franklin, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Chickasaw, Scott, Van Buren, Winneshiek and Worth.

The governor's proclamation allows state resources to be used at no cost to local governments. It also activates Iowa's individual disaster assistance program.

Iowa’s individual disaster assistance program helps people with low incomes. Iowans with household incomes of up to 130 percent of federal poverty guidelines may apply for a grant of up to $3,300 to help recover from flood damage. It is a reimbursement program, which means that applicants must include receipts when applying for help.

Culver also visited Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids Monday night. He made the trips to tour flood damage. At the Linn County Emergency Management location at Kirkwood College, the governor said "We are seeing, whether it's here in Linn County or places like Cerro Gordo or Mason City, something they have not seen in a long time. It could rival floods that go back to the 1930s."

The governor says somewhere around 14-hundred people have had to evacuate their homes in the state as of Monday night.
