Man Injured in Alleged Drunken Hit and Run

By Ashley Hinson

BALDWIN - A rural Bellevue man faces charges after hitting a pedestrian with his truck... and then driving off.

It happened on Highway 64 in Baldwin, just before 9:30 Sunday night. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Steven Dunn was driving eastbound when he hit 33-year-old Justin Dies of Dubuque.

Dies was taken to the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, then transferred to University Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Law enforcement later caught up with Dunn. He is charged with operating while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and causing serious injury.

I hope that the sick people with the comments about pedestrians moving out of the way get a CLUE!! How do you get out of the way when you are NOT in the road to begin with. Rod and those others need to get ran over!!

cannot begin to describe the horror and heartache I felt reading the comments posted regarding this accident. Justin could be your son, brother or friend. Imagine for just one moment how you would feel if this was your loved one.

The driver has priors for speeding(45mph over the speed limit)and a few for open container, he is NO innocent in my book. He hit a pedestrian at 70mph AND KEPT driving. He is a criminal and I hope justice is served for everyone else who could have possibly been in Justin's shoes (which by the way were left on the roadside IN PLACE where he was nearly murdered.) He literally was knocked out of his shoes while saving another's life.

Justin's court records have no bearing on this situation and do not make what happened to him ok. I really think it's creepy that someone would see in the news that a person was almost killed and then look up that person's court record!

if you look them both up on Iowa courts they both have a colorful past. Drinking and driving is never ok and if you hit someone and run while doing it you are asking for trouble. It is a bad situation all the way around no matter what led up to it...

I know Steve and his family. I feel for them all. The injured person has quit a colorful back round in the Iowa courts. There may be more to this story if rumors are true.

I dont think anyone here should have an opinion on this until you what all happened because no where in the article does it say what really happened. It is a lot more than just some kid running over another person.

Ya know, Rod is right the pedestrians need to watch where theyre going too. It's not just the people that are behind the wheel.

I live in Bellevue and know this kid----very nice kid who obviously made a very poor choice-I will pray for the victim's recovery and also that Steven gets the help he needs. It's amazing what alcohol can do to you.........it's too bad these kids don't take driving a vehicle while drinking more seriously.

I'll never understand why some people can't get out of the way of an approaching car. After all, we don't walk thru too many tunnels and therefore have lots of room to move. Dunn is screwed and deserves it but come on pedestrians it's your life on the line, pay attention.
