Iowa Attorney General Sues Penn. Direct-Mail Operator

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - The Iowa attorney general's office has filed a lawsuit against a Pennsylvania man accused of deceiving older Iowans through direct mailings.

The lawsuit was filed Friday in Polk County District Court and names Paul Gluchanicz, a direct-mail operator from of Wayne, Pennsylvania.

It says he sold the names of Iowans who sent in $20 "administration fees," believing they had won cash prizes worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Attorney General Tom Miller alleges that the mailings were deceptive and that Iowans wasted their payments because they got nothing more than a listing of other sweepstakes and contests.

The lawsuit asks for injunctions to prohibit Gluchanicz from deceptive practices.

Miller says Gluchanicz has done business as Sweepstakes Research Legal Department, Asset Allocation Authority and American Award Advisory, among other names.
