Cedar Rapids Metro Drivers Should Notice Hoses

By Danielle Plogmann, Producer

By Danielle Plogmann

CEDAR RAPIDS - Drivers in the Cedar Rapids metro area should notice black hoses stretched over the roads this summer. An Oregon company is conducting a three month-long traffic counting study.

The study will provide data to members of the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization. Those members include Linn County, Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Robins, Ely, Fairfax and Shueyville. The cities can use that information to help anticipate wear and tear on roads. Cities will also learn where traffic is heaviest and at what time of day.

Federal funds pay for most of the $60,000 study. The cities split up $12,000 of the cost according to population.

Perhaps there isn't a local company that specializes in this type of work. I buy American made cars, but none of them were made in Iowa. That's probably because they don't make cars in Iowa. With regards to the Oregon company, I'm not certain this is the case, but it is certainly plausible. I won't blindly accuse our state of being "sad" when I don't have all the facts, and I don't think you should either. Also, did you read the article? Federal funds paid for $48,000.00 of it. Have a nice day.

Why can't the state pay for us getting roads fix insted of raising taxes on things and making the City pay for something that should have been done along time ago? I don't understand why the city people of Cedar Rapids can't do there job. I forgot they don't know how to do anything right!

Anonymous: The bid likely went to the lowest bidder. So even if there was a company in Iowa that conducts these types of studies, they likely submitted a higher bid.
