Governor Signs Bill To Help Bring Alternate Fuel Pumps To Retailers

DES MOINES (AP) - Governor Culver has signed a bill to help Iowa retailers pay for alternative fuel pumps.

The new law also encourages state and local government to use
biodiesel when its available.

The measure is designed to improve access to E85 and biodiesel pumps. Both are relatively rare in Iowa despite the state's status as a leading producer of the fuels.

Monte Shaw is executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels ssociation. He says there are thousands of flexible fuel vehicles
in Iowa, but only a handful of gas stations offer the fuel.

Hey all, Chet is going to China for a while...maybe the pen signing of bills will stop while he spends our money going to China to try to increase trade --- HA HA trade in IOWA with the Chinese? Oh never mind, Chet needs more Chinese PENS to sign new laws!! C'mon Chet, you aren't a Senator or Congressman looking for new trade agreements for the US, but I bet that is coming if he has his way!! OUCH....what a thought!!

Who's the genius that thought putting corn in our gas tanks was going to fix anything?

if you do the math, E-85 actually costs MORE per mile to drive with than 87 octane fuel does. since it only gets about 55-60% of the fuel mileage compared to gasoline. but it is not half of the cost of 87 octane. making it cost more in the long run. BIO-Diesel might be another matter, but e-85 is a joke. Plus you must have a flex fuel vehicle to run it. which costs more than the regular version of the same vehicle.

Unfortunately a lot of Iowans would rather pay more tax money and have Governor Chet take care of them than keep more of their money and take care of themselves.

This guy must go through a box of pens a week with all the bills he signs. I guess the money flows freely with a state full of reliable taxpayers at his disposal. The phrase "cut spending" doesn't even exist in Chet's playbook.

We need to look at alternate fuels - not just biodiesel & E85. Make the car manufacturers relook at the electric car (electricity is a LOT cheaper than any type of gas), hydrogen fueled vehicles, and I even heard of some people who invented a vehicle that runs on compressed air. These are all RENEWABLE resources and won't make our grocery bills higher because they're taking away corn & soy that were traditionally used to feed the US to put into our gas tanks.

Gary, There's no way ethanol is lowering the cost of fuel by a dollar. I thought the DEM's were offering relief on gas prices when they took office in 06'. But prices have went up a $1.00. Where's there plan. I didn't vote for Culver. Anyone with a brain didn't vote for him.

This crappy fuel is posibly the only reason we are not paying in excess of $5.00 per gallon of regular gas already.

Once again Chut proves he's an idiot. The market is not dictating that businesses should invest in these pumps, but that common sense indicator won't stop Chut at doing what the government should not be doing. Has anyone told him that Soy is people and animal food - not truck food?

Where is Chet getting the money for THIS?? Why are taxpayers having our money taken away from us, funneled through Chet's government (which takes an average 75% cut for itself), then given away to fuel companies to buy themselves fancy new pumps? Why don't they buy their OWN pumps? If I have to pay for these, then I want Chet to buy my replacement family minivan to use these pumps on, too!
