Allergy Season Arrives in Iowa

SIOUX CITY (AP) - Allergy season in Iowa is coming on strong, thanks to big swings in the weather this spring - sunshine one day and snow the next.

Experts say there's a direct link between the weather and the amount of tree, grass and weed pollen in the air.

Dr. James Oggel of Sioux City Allergy and Asthma says spring can be pretty intense for allergy sufferers, especially with a wild swing in temperatures.

He also says windy weather makes people miserable because the wind carries pollen further.

Oggel says there are ways to reduce exposure to pollen and minimize allergic reactions - keep house windows closed, especially in the early morning hours, limit outdoor activities and be consistent in taking medications.
