Friends Poster, Email Iowa City After Assault

By Josh Hinkle

IOWA CITY - A group of University of Iowa students are now intensely searching for the people who nearly beat their friend to death early last Saturday. Police have no suspects in 22-year-old Brian LaGro's attack that happened in the 500 block of Burlington Street in Iowa City.

In addition to hanging more than 400 wanted posters, his friends have started an email campaign. It's already gone out to the the U of I's fraternities and sororities and now every student involved in a campus organization.

The group hopes their efforts will help bring LaGro's assailants to justice. LaGro underwent brain surgery to relieve bleeding and is now recovering at his home.

If you have any information about the assault on LaGro or any of the other recent assaults in Iowa City, call police at 319-356-5276.

Once a case reaches over 24 hours you have about a 70% chance of catching the perp, and once it reaches 48 hours you are down to about 50%, after that it really is a lost cause. Of course there are miracles, but after 48 hours, pretty much any and all evidence is gone and most witnesses may have already forgot any details. It is sad to say, but this might just be a lost cause. I still think its amazing that people are banding together to try and find this assailant. Great job!

Remember that Brian is a son, a brother, and a friend to many. This senseless and brutal attack affects more than just him. It could have easily been your son, your brother or your friend. Blessings to Brian and his family. May they soon see justice for this senseless act of violence that has been unwillingly trust upon them. Nobody deserves this pain.

they always say "its a lost cause" that's not right!these people need caught.they keep doing this and they're not getting caught.maybe the police shuld chk out how many people a night come in from getting beat up, may b see if assaults r more common during school year compared to when school is out.the police need to take care of this or get somebody in here who will!somebody is going to DIE one of these times.why do we always have to wait for somebody to die before something is done?!

I am sorry, but to me it does not matter who started the fight. No one deserves to be beat like that and whoever did it should come forward and be the bigger person. Accept the consequences for your actions. Time to grow up. I feel for his family and friends. That is not the way you should have to enjoy him.

Who's to say the victem was drunk. I DJ in Iowa City and walk my gear to the car parked in an alley about 2:15am, and I do not drink. It very well could have been me. There have been far too many cases like this in Iowa City. This is why I never walk to the car alone and exercise my right to be armed.

Until the police bring all of the perpetrators to justice, every person in Iowa City should arm themselves for their own protection. There is a roving band of thugs and the citizens do not know where they will strike next. How are the police coming along with those 50 sexual assaults? We know the police can't be everywhere at once. No need to be vigilantes, but we do need to protect ourselves.

That is a very rude comment. People should have to worry about walking home and getting beat up regardless of what they did or did not do through out the night. Best wishes to Brian and his family!

I hope everything goes well with Brian. I dont know him but I can feel the sorrow and pain his friends and family are going through. Its better that the police find them before other people do...I'm sure others would LOVE to take this into their own hands...
