Fuel Prices Could Hurt Flower Deliveries

By Josh Hinkle

CEDAR RAPIDS - Records highs at the pump are hurting drivers across the nation. In Cedar Rapids, TV9 found the price for regular unleaded between $3.45 and $3.65.

It falls on a very important weekend for delivery trucks. Flowerama in Cedar Rapids says Mother's Day is its busiest for deliveries during the year. Luckily, most of their sales come from walk-ins, so they actually don't spend as much on gas.

So far, they haven't had to raise their prices to keep up with costs. Customers have kept a steady stream at the store.

Manager Shelly Hartman says, "We're on 1st Ave. We're very convenient for people. We're on a very busy corner driving by. They see all the color and the motion, so they stop."

Flowerama does have a $5 delivery charge. Workers say, it's unclear if next year that will go up or even the price of flowers.

This isn't really news. Prices "could" go up? The delivery charge "may" go up next year? Seems like more of a fortune-telling space-filler than factual news.

And flower shops are the only ones affected...what about other delivery drivers? Who cares, gas is expensive for everybody.
