Was Matt Kruziki's Death a Murder?

East Dubuque, IL - The father of an East Dubuque drowning victim is calling on federal investigators to find out if his son's death was actually the work of a serial killer.
24-year-old Matt Kruziki drowned in the Mississippi River in late December, 2005.

Now two retired New York investigators think Kruziki's death could be linked to a series of other suspicious deaths in the Midwest.
That's because of smiley faces and the word "Sinsinawa" found near the scene of other drownings.

The story of the alleged smiley face killer is spreading across the country. It's one of the cover stories in this week's People Magazine. It includes a picture of Matt Kruziki who was last seen on Sinsinawa Avenue. Now Matt's father says it's time for the FBI to investigate this case.”

Recently retired U.S. Marshal, Bill Kruziki has always questioned how his son got into the Mississippi River.
Kruziki said, "There are a lot of unanswered questions, a lot of doors haven't been closed and I have said that all along"

Now two retired New York investigators are sharing their findings with Kruziki. The investigators say they have reason to believe Matt is part of a series of young college men found dead in the water after a night of drinking.

Kruziki said, "The same street in East Dubuque and that name being scrawled somewhere in East Lansing, Michigan, 450 miles away."

East Dubuque police led the investigation of Matt Kruziki's death. Police ruled his death as a drowning. Chief Steve O'Connell says the New York investigators have not contacted him for information about the Kruziki case. But O'Connell says the investigator's information seems inaccurate.

O’Connell said, "On December 24th, 2005 the Mississippi River was frozen from shore bank to shore bank so it would be impossible to slide a body into the water."

Still Kruziki says the cases are too similar to ignore the possibility that Matt may be a murder victim.

Kruziki said, "I don't know if he's part of this investigation or of he did accidentally drown, I don't know but I want to at least put the effort in to find out one way or another."

Bill Kruziki also says Matt's older brother blamed himself for not being with Matt the night he disappeared.
His brother ended up taking his own life last fall, another motivation for Bill to search for answers.

Bill Kruziki says a United States Congressman from Wisconsin sent a letter to the F.B.I. asking them to investigate the connection between the dozens of young men found dead and the smiley faces painted nearby.

So they say it'd be impossible to slip a body into the water since it was frozen shore-to-shore... but then how did he drown? If it's possible to fall through ice, it should certainly be possible to also drop somebody into a hole in the ice.
