When Will I Get my Stimulus Check?

By Becky Ogann

Stimulus Payment Schedule for Tax Returns Processed by April 15

Economic stimulus payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer's Social Security number. For joint filers, the payments will go out based on the person listed first on the return. Payments will be made by either direct deposit or paper check, consistent with how people filed their 2007 tax return.

People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting April 28. Direct deposits will be made daily and completed by the date listed below:

DIRECT DEPOSIT
Last two SSN digits -- payments will be transmitted no later than
00 through 20 -- May 2
21 through 75 -- May 9
76 through 99 -- May 16

Paper checks will also go out based on Social Security number. For Social Security numbers ending in 00 through 09, the paper checks will be mailed starting May 9 and will continue through May 16. A similar process will be repeated in the following weeks.

PAPER CHECK
Last two SSN digits -- payments will be mailed no later than
00 through 09 -- May 16
10 through 18 -- May 23
19 through 25 -- May 30
26 through 38 -- June 6
39 through 51 -- June 13
52 through 63 -- June 20
64 through 75 -- June 27
76 through 87 -- July 4
88 through 99 -- July 11

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably about two weeks later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.

A small percentage of tax returns will require additional time to process and to compute a stimulus payment amount. For these returns, stimulus payments may not be issued in accordance with the schedule above, even if the tax return was processed by April 15.

If you used Turbo Tax and had the "fees" taken out of what your expected refund was, then you will be getting a paper check mailed to you. If you used Turbo Tax and payed for your fees using a credit card or other form of pymt, then you will have direct deposit (if that's what you chose.) They pretty much charge you fees for them depositing your money into their Santa Barbara Bank account and then transfering what's owed to you. I just found this out and am a little ticked to say the least.

I too am amazed at all the complaining about these checks. With an estimated 303,991,686 people in the United States is it any wonder that it will take some time for everyone to receive their money. Even the least amount that is being received would feed several families for a year in a developing country. Get over yourselves and count yourself lucky you are priviledged and live in the US even with what problems we do have. (steps down off soap box)

Does anyone know how much it cost our government to NOTIFY us that we would get a stimulus check and then SEND it to us? I don't mean the cost of the stimulus checks themselves, but would like to know what it cost "US TAXPAYERS" for the labor, paper and the mailing costs, I heard $42,000,000 IS THAT TRUE???

It'll be there eventually, people around here are remarkable in their ability to find things to complain about. And for what it's worth, the rebate check is not taxable next year.

Its tough to stimulate something thats almost down and out, or at least that's the way it sounds from the majority of these posts. Typical American behavior...spend it before you even have your hands on it. I'm pretty sure $600< would help the average person out, but good lord. It'll end up being spent on gas or some other necessity, which makes makes this funny on so many levels. It would have made sense to do this during XMas or another major holiday. No $$$ coming back if u owe student loans

Why are we all complaining about receiving money that is being given to us? Granted we have to claim it as income next year, but still....you wouldn't be complaining if there wasn't such a thing as this stimulus. Have you ever heard of not spending money you don't have? I have a family along with 2 children, I go to work everyday and so does my husband, that's how we pay for bills. I can't believe people are this selfish.

All these half illiterate people complaining they don't have a check yet. It's not a job, it's a TAX RETURN. What, do you want the IRS! of all people to snap to your whim? Get a second job and a literacy course, go to college, and maybe you wouldn't have toe rely on something you'd never get before this year to begin with!

For individuals who had there preperation fees or have gotten RALS (rapid refund checks) the IRS will mail them paper checks, they will not get them via direct deposit as the IRS has the financial institutions account information on file. I work at a tax software company here in Cedar Rapids Ia, (use TaxACT we're local) so I thought I'd give everyone a heads up so they wouldn't be wondering.

The direct deposit stipulation is confusing. What's in fine print on the IRS website is that if you did a Refund Anticipation Loan (by direct deposit) through your tax preparer - your check will actually be mailed. It's only the direct deposits that were direct from the IRS - not your tax preparer.

Must we all remember that not everyone will recieve a check and it also says that some may take longer to process. I haven't recieved mine and don't expect to until at least the 9th of May. This is something the government is doing for the economy, so be happy if you get one and stop complaining. Normally they would just keep your money.

If you filed online using a turbo tax or other internet program and your refund was deposited by that companies bank. They will be issuing you a paper check it will not be transmitted via DD. The irs wants to ensure that the correct person gets the rebate. If they were to send it DD based on your return they would issue it to the program you used instead of your bank account. Was on hold for 45 mins today to find out I will now be getting a paper check because of it.
